Kauri Dieback Community workshops

Posted 11 years, 4 months ago    0 comments

Will Coromandel kauri survive? It’s up to us!

The trustees of Kauri 2000 invite you, your friends and associates to attend a community workshop to discuss ways of protecting Coromandel kauri from kauri dieback disease.

You are personally invited to attend one of these workshops as someone who could help influence local community-based solutions to the challenge of stopping the spread of kauri dieback in Peninsula forests.

There are three locations so you can select whichever is most convenient:

• 1 - 3.30 pm Saturday 18 May - Grahamstown Community Centre, Pollen Street, Thames

• 1 - 3.30 pm Sunday 19 May - Coromandel Area School Hall, Woollams Ave, Coromandel

• 6 – 8.30 pm Sunday 19 May - Whitianga Town Hall, Monk Street, Whitianga

Each meeting will include an update by the Kauri Dieback Team on what is known about kauri dieback disease, and community initiatives in Auckland and Northland. Topics will include:

• Current knowledge about the disease – what do we know, how do we recognise it?
• What are the risk factors for the Coromandel?
• What can we do, what tools and techniques can we use?
• How can our communities help? Locals hold the solution!
• Each of us can make some difference – find out how you and organisations you are associated with can help.

We’d like a really big turnout so please pass this invitation on to anyone else you can think of who would like to be involved. We are particularly keen that representatives of your group attend because we feel your members can play an important role in preventing the spread of this devastating disease.

Hand outs, tea and coffee provided on the day. Entry is free (but gold coin donation to help with costs will be appreciated).

To help us get a feeling for numbers attending please RSVP to Kauri 2000 by Wednesday 15 May – phone 866 0468 or email info@kauri2000.co.nz .

Kind regards

Barbara Ritchie
Coordinator

Love Doc Day! today 25 Ward St 12noon to 2

Posted 11 years, 4 months ago    2 comments

Reminder - come along in your lunch hour today (12.30 ish would be good) to the Environment Centre - down on the pavement - and show your love for DoC. We will be there to take your messages via postit notes and photos to national Forest and Bird  to be publicised and presented to the government.

Why??

Because DoC has had $54m cut from its funding over the past 4 years
It looks after a third of NZ's area, 33 marine reserves, and 6 marine mammal sanctuaries

Doc isessential to looking after our biodiversity and green image, which directly or indirectly employs thousands of New Zealanders.

and a lot of other reasons that you can find out about when you come along to 25 Ward St!! or look on the Forest and Bird website.
