Meet at gate 2, opposite zoo car park for a brief if you can help with laying out plants before Arbor Day.

Friday, 1 June - Arbor Day

Waiwhakareke

1000 volunteers are needed to plant more than 23000 plants. Starting at 10am, this is a great chance to see a large scale restoration in action.   Lots of groups are invloved icluding schools and some of you will have children who will be there.

At the Waikato Environment Centre, 25 Ward St, Hamilton

(street parking is free after 6pm).

$2 coin entry - to help pay for the venue, and refreshments.

Some of you may have visited Mark and June's house in the Hakarimatas last year, on one of the eco home tours. Mark will be talking about the temperature monitoring setup in their home, which has been in place for over a year now. World Fair Trade Day - tomorrow

Trade Aid on Worley Place is celebrating World Fair Trade Day. Throughout the day there will be coffee, tea and chocolate tasting, colouring competitions and puzzles for children, live music.

Also this Sunday is Mothers' Day so check out their range of beautiful hand-made gifts from around the world.

If you haven’t been to see their new store then this would be a good time to do so!

 


Project Litefoot for Sport Clubs

For readers who belong to sport clubs:

Project Litefoot offers to visit and check your club premises in order to identify energy-saving opportunities.  These may include upgrading lightbulbs, installing hot water cylinder insulation and installing tap aerators.
They also produce an Environmental Impact Report with reccommendations that will help the club further reduce environmental impact.
Project Litefoot offers recognition, rewards and member involvement.
It is led by seven top sportspeople and is also about activating community sport to follow their lead. LiteClub is an entirely free service for sports clubs which is made possible by support from the Ministry of the Environment, ASB Community Trust, the Lion Foundation and EECA.

Garden Place Submissions wanted

Submissions Welcome for change of Garden Place Status

Council proposes to designate the Garden Place area as a pedestrian mall.
Garden Place’s legal status is that of a road, however it is valued by the community as an open space.  Leaving Garden Place as a road with no other designation causes issues for managing potential conflict between pedestrians using the space and undesirable vehicle use of the area.

The council would like to hear views and submissions from the public.

The date for these has been exptended to
